CSIR: General Worker Opportunity

About the job:

The CSIR has a vacancy for a Switchboard Operator in Strategic Communication Portfolio. The incumbent will route calls to the relevant individuals or departments within the CSIR. This position is based in Pretoria.

Key responsibilities:

  • Screen and route calls to the correct person and relay the messages received;
  • Inform management or security of any suspicious call;
  • Respond to incoming calls in the prescribed manner as determined by the service standards;
  • Take all messages accurately and relay those promptly to the relevant personnel;
  • Keep abreast with CSIR daily activities, CSIR policies and procedures in order to enable responding to clients;
  • Promote a first-class corporate image and a friendly but professional approach;
  • Maintain an updated list of important contacts and information list of services, departments and staff members;
  • Prioritise emergency calls and ensure that such messages are delivery to the recipients;
  • Prompt and friendly response to switchboard queries;
  • Assist with any telephone related duties required by management;
  • Train switchboard temp when necessary.

Qualifications, skills and experience:

  • A   National Diploma in Administration or related field;
  • At least three years secretarial experience and/or administration experience;
  • Customer service and office management experience;
  • Strong organisational and time management skills;
  • Knowledge management and record keeping experience;
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills;
  • High computer literacy and proficiency in all key software packages;
  • Proficient in written and spoken English.
